Chicxulub Foodbank Program
(Sign up to receive our newsletter by email here) This month I prepared for 73 families and 69 arrived. Now this allows for
31 new families beginning in January. I am beginning to feel back on track.
Rita came for a visit to say hello to everyone. This was the first time she
has returned since selling the restaurant… it was a bit sad for her.
There was an article in the local paper about the Food Bank. Visit this link to read it.
There is also a new online paper, first ever and there is an English version. Check this one out as well.
You can also sign up for it to arrive in your inbox every day. Keeps you
informed better than the stories circulating along the beach!
SANTA'S RETURN!
Once again, the guys at the restaurant wanted Santa for a return
engagement. I am not sure who enjoyed him more…but the smiles tell the
story! The candy canes (300) were passed out to all who came.
ENGLISH CLASSES
The English classes are proceeding nicely. Everyone seems to be enjoying
the classes. We are putting together a “book” to help the rest of the
volunteers who will begin after the new year and the other school.
Group meeting following classes Dec 2009. Don’t you wish you were here?
CRUISE SHIP PROGRAM
Wow the cruise ship visits sure climbed between the November and
December dispensa! I toured 28 folks and another 9 will be here after the
dispensa. I love meeting these new folks who are interested in making a
difference.

Another milestone for me! |
SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM
The school psychology program is working well at both schools and getting
ready to close down for the holidays.

The little girl on the left without the bow has become the good will
ambassador to welcome the visitors whenever there is a visit. Her name is
Neydi.
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS & CONTRIBUTORS!
A group of angels got together early December to package the toiletries for
the Christmas hampers. The packing of the hampers was the next big job. A big thanks to everyone for your donated
toiletries and making this possible yet again for another year.
Another group of elves got together to scrub the donated shoes.
The Geek Squad for computer maintenance at Andres Quintana Roo school
(AQR) has been picked up by Dave and Tony. Carlos, the principal is grinning
from ear to ear now that the systems are being looked at and worked on.
Dulce Firth, current President of the International Womens’ Club donated
25 plastic bowls and small spoons for the lunch program at Andres Quintana
Roo.
TAX DONATION PROCESS
I want to let you know that the process of making donations to the Canadian
Food For Children organization that will send you a tax receipt has been
working very well. Comments to me indicate they are efficient and prompt.
I receive notification from their office when funds are transferred to the
Food Bank account.
Here is how you do it.
All you need to do is write the cheque to:
Canadian Food for Children
40 King George’s Road
TO Ontario
M8X 1L3
Attention: Mary Reid
Include my name and Chix Food Bank project and they will issue the receipt
and deposit the money into the Food Bank account here in Mexico.
Please advise me if you are making your donation in this manner so I can keep
the records straight for the Adopt A Family program. The families of Chicxulub thank you for
your caring and warm support. Sharon Helgason
